I need help in tution, books, and being able to support my two boys while I go to college full time.   I have been out of school for twenty years.  I have been married three times.  I was afraid to go back to school after each year went by due to thinking I had forgotton or would fail.  I have taken the Compass test and was  very pleased that I did well.  My boys father is not in their life and does not pay child support.  I am currently working and due to this I can not receive assistance.  I have always wanted to go to college but  I got married at sixteen years old and had a son by the age of 17.  Now I have two boys who are 12 and 14 that I need a degree so I can support them on my own.  Its very discourgaing due to doors being shut since I am working.  I am being refused help due to I have a job.  I have worked and am still working but I would like to go to college full time not just to be able to support my children but for myself.

sunshine, I know where you are stuck. A lot of people make just enough money to support their family but too much to get assistance. Were you awair that there are two kinds of scholarchips? They are Needs based and Merit based. You do not qualify for the Needs based scholarships, but your can probably find a Merit based scholarship if you look hard enough. Don't let the Merit part scare you. Most of the Merit based scholarships just want you to write an essay to qualify. These are the ones given by faternal orginazations, veterans orginazations and the like. I have even seen them given by the music/appliance store BestBuy. Look first in your local area and then at the State and Federal level. Let everyone you meet know that you are looking for a scholarship, you never know what will turn up. A friend of mine got a $2000 scholarship for his daughter from a foundation that was set up by a person in their will. He found out about it from a friend of his friend. All his daughter had to do was write an essay about why she wanted to go to school. So keep looking, Don't give up. You might want to check out the website www.yourgrant.com/scholarships for more information and a list of scholarships available. Keep at it and you will succeed! Honest Grantt
